The image analysis system reliably distinguishes between a particle and the membrane background without any user interaction allowing for easy method validation. Each particle detected is assigned a unique identification number. In addition, the morphological characteristics of each particle are analyzed and a size distribution table is created. Any edge particles are selected for subsequent analysis and merged into a composite.
